December 29, 2011

What a day!

Got picked up at 7:30 after a fairly decent night's sleep. Had my labs drawn at 8:40 a.m. and then went to breakfast. Had Speech therapy at 10:00 a.m. and a wonderful  massage at 11:00. Since I now had almost 2 hours to kill before my Dr's apt to see if I could start chemo today or not, I took a 45 minute cat nap in the tv room. Didn't feel ill or anything, just wanted my eyes closed so I'd have energy for the rest of my day.

After my cat nap I had lunch, and then went to my Team apts. where I found out my blood platelets rose a bit, but not enough for chemo through the port. But since this cancer is growing, he wants to start me on something!  So I started this evening after getting home on Cytoxan, a chemo pill for the next 14 days. Since I have so many other reactions to the meds etc he does not want me to travel until he sees how I react to the chemo. So I'm here at least until 1/3.

And I have to return here on 1/12. Already have my flight scheduled.

They will check my labs on 1/3 and decide when I get to go home. Then I'll have labs at home on 1/10 before returning on 1/12.

When I was 'almost' done for the day, my friend from Vernal, UT; Cathy Meek, who now lives in Tuscon, AZ; whom I have not seen in 15 years was able to join me for coffee and a sandwich because she was in town. It was so nice to see her!!!

Here is where I claim TMI, stop reading if you chose. Once we sat down in the cafe for her lunch. (I'd already eaten) I started to feel sick, and lost my lunch. As soon as my legs steadied (or so I thought) I went and picked my RX's so I could go home. But I became too unsteady on my feet and had to stick around and have the staff check me out to go home. They took my vitals and ordered another chest x-ray because I was short of breath, and checked my blood sugar. Had to wait a long time for the x-ray and even longer for the radiologist to not call with a report. The Dr. decided the x-ray was ok and didn't want me to wait any longer. I'd been there for over 2 hours. He felt it was safe to send me to Uncle Hal's.

Once I got to Hal's, I took my anti-nausea meds and at a small salad so I could take my first chemo pill. Although I had the RX for the chemo, I didn't get sick because of it; at least not yet.

I'm headed to bed within the next few minutes. I'm beat. But I don't have to be back there before 1/3 unless I have any complications between now and then. I can just rest, rest, rest and visit.

God Bless....Until later...
